El Dorado County Information
Where to go in El Dorado County
COLOMA Halfway between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, roaring deep in the canyons of El Dorado County's rugged western slope, the American River rolls on, little-changed from how it was 150 years ago. Back on January 24, 1848, while examining the tailrace of a remote lumber mill on said river, John Marshall glimpsed the first shiny flakes of metal that started the fever we know today as the Gold Rush of 1849. Now a State Park, Coloma captures the imagination of both children and adults.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE Mark Twain loved to fish. He said so his own self. And the first time he ever visited Lake Tahoe, California, he marveled at how cold and crystal clear the water was. And how every day he would cast his line and watch thousands of trout 200 feet below him swim right up to his baited hook "as clearly as if they were no more'n three feet away. Then swim off."
In spite of our favorite author's experience, if you like excitement, Lake Tahoe is not just the Premier Resort Spot in El Dorado County, but one of the top spots in all of North America.
